One of the largest pharmacy chains in the U.S. is closing its doors for good.

Rite Aid, which once had a sizable presence along with Walgreens and CVS, announced on its website that all locations nationwide are closed permanently.

“All Rite Aid stores have now closed. We thank our loyal customers for their many years of support,” the announcement said.

The closures are the final nail in the coffin for a pharmacy chain that dealt with bankruptcy woes for years, filing for bankruptcy twice and closing several stores at a time to try and stay afloat.

When Rite Aid filed for bankruptcy for a second time in May 2025, it liquidated its assets.

Here’s what you need to do if you are affected by the closings.

What should I do if I had Rite Aid as my pharmacy?

If you had Rite Aid as your pharmacy, the website with the closing announcement has two links.

One link is for former customers requesting prescription and immunization records.

The second link is for people looking to find a new pharmacy in their area.
