The restaurant and its chef, Don Bowie, collaborated on an Instagram post that captures Bowie spending time backstage with Jay-Z, where Bowie says that Jay told him, “I wasn’t even mad, that’s how good that sh*t was.” High praise indeed. “We’ve received a lot of compliments over the years, but this may be one of the best ones yet,” Bowie said in a press release.

Taste Kitchen + Bar also dropped a full list of what the Cowboy Carter tour team ordered, which included: surf and turf (jerk lamb chops and deep fried lobster), the Taste of New Orleans platter served with blackened or fried catfish and shrimp, the Taste of Soul platter (smothered chicken with collard greens and candied yams), chicken and waffles, lobster macaroni and cheese, a side of garlic mashed potatoes, and an array of desserts including whiskey butter cake, cheesecake, and deep-fried waffle bread pudding.

Angie Beyince, Beyoncé’s cousin, also posted an Instagram capturing a video of the soul food spread.

According to Bowie, Bey and Jay were turned on to the spot by JR Martins from Alife Hospitality, who recommended it when the power couple asked what local restaurants they should order from while in town. In a time when small businesses need as much public visibility as possible to survive, the Bey seal of approval means something. Just ask Frenchy’s.
