Rivalry week returns to the Lone Star State on Saturday when No. 11 Texas Tech will hope to continue its relentless run of six straight wins over Houston at Space City Financial Stadium. The Red Raiders are arguably the outfit to beat in the Big 12 thus far, but there’s nothing like a showdown with a nemesis to prove those credentials.

Both teams boast near-identical 4-0 records with a singular conference win under their belts, but the odds are undeniably stacked against Houston head coach Willie Fritz. That being said, the carrot of attaining their first AP Poll ranking as a Big 12 program is all the motivation the Cougars will need to claw their way to an upset.

Texas Tech has a chance to make history in that department, too, knowing full well a win would give the school its first single-digit ranking since 2008. And head coach Joey McGuire is happier knowing quarterback Behren Morton is ready to start after clearing concussion protocols over the recent bye week.

The Red Raiders have been a juggernaut starting games and have conceded just three points in the opening three quarters of their four games to date this season. Surviving that fast-start trend will be critical if Houston is to get anything from this game and earn a first win over its bitter rival since 2009.
