Turning point: Baylee DeSmit picked the perfect time for her first professional goal, scoring five minutes into stoppage time to earn Sporting Club Jacksonville a wild 3-3 draw against host Brooklyn FC on Oct. 4 in Gainbridge Super League women’s soccer at Maimonides Park.
Sporting slumps late: Sporting Jax (2-2-2) had carried a 2-1 lead until the final five minutes, before Brooklyn turned the game upside down. Samantha Rosette chipped keeper Kaitlyn Parks to tie the game in the 86th minute and Rebecca Cooke poked home a far-post cross to push the hosts in front in the 90th.
Boman breakthrough: Midfielder Sophia Boman netted her first-ever goal in the 16th minute and assisted Paige Kenton for what was briefly a go-ahead goal in the 76th.
Quick free kicks: Leah Scarpelli notched the first Brooklyn goal midway through the second half, scoring directly from a corner kick. … Ashlyn Puerta assisted the tying goal for Jacksonville. … DeSmit, who played college soccer at Loyola-Maryland, entered off the bench in the 60th minute for Caroline Murray. … Jacksonville has the most goals scored and goals allowed in the nine-team league.
