The San Diego Automotive Museum has officially launched a $20 million capital campaign to support the construction of a new building that will expand its footprint, elevate its educational mission, and strengthen community engagement in the heart of Balboa Park.
The planned expansion will add 35,000 square feet of space to the existing historic facility, including areas for rotating exhibits, educational programs, and community events. A rooftop reception venue with sweeping views of Downtown San Diego and Balboa Park will offer a new destination for special events and private gatherings.
“This is a transformative moment for the Museum,” said Executive Director Lenny Leszczynski. “The new building will allow us to better preserve automotive history, inspire future generations, and welcome more visitors and students into our space.”
Over the past five years, the Museum has made major upgrades to its current facility, including a new Berg Family Library and other vital improvements. The new building represents the next chapter—one focused on growing collections, access, and impact.
The campaign launched June 15 with a $1 million lead gift from Advance Test Equipment Rentals.
