Sanskrit daily Sudharma’s special anniversary edition and a book titled ‘The Saga of Sudharma’, authored by journalist Kudli Gururaj and translated by S. Nataraj was released on the occasion of the newspaper’s 56th anniversary, held in Mysuru on Sunday.
Vijay Sankeshwar, former MP and founder of VRL Logistics; H.V. Nagaraja Rao, honorary chief editor of Sudharma; K .Shivakumar, MLC; Jayalakshmi, editor of Sudharma; and others participated in the function held at BSS Vidyodaya in Krishnamurthypuram.
Mr. Shivakumar, in his address, emphasised the importance of ensuring the survival of newspapers like Sudharma, which represented a culture. He said it was the responsibility of not only the newspaper’s management and its readers, but also of the government to protect such newspapers.
Mr. Gururaj, who had traced the 50-year-journey of Sudharma in his original work released about two years ago, said ‘The Saga of Sudharma’, translated by Mr. Nataraj, a lecturer, is expected to be taken up for translation in French shortly.
‘The Saga of Sudharma’ has been described as “an exceptional five-decade odyssey of the world’s sole Sanskrit daily”.
