LOS ANGELES — With Hollywood as the backdrop, the Washington Commanders flipped the script — on their season and perhaps how we view this team.
Credit for Sunday’s 27-10 win over the Los Angeles Chargers at SoFi Stadium, a significantly different result than two prior game flubs, goes in many directions.
Offensively, the return of leading cast member Jayden Daniels to the team following a two-game knee injury absence and his native Southern California sparked change with a performance more smart than spectacular. Seventh-round rookie runner Jacory Croskey-Merritt scored two touchdowns and had 150 scrimmage yards in an inevitable breakout game.
Washington became the latest defense to harass Justin Herbert, sacking the Chargers quarterback five times, with two from Dorance Armstrong. The team, down multiple starters, including star receiver Terry McLaurin, offered no pity on Los Angeles’ injury-riddled offensive line.
“Whoever showed up, they got to get fucked up,” Armstrong told Last Man Standig, “and that’s what happened today.”
