In case you missed it, Netflix’s new drama The Waterfront has officially made waves—literally and figuratively. Despite only premiering on June 19, the show quickly sailed to the top of Netflix’s U.S. Top 10 chart, becoming the number one most-streamed series on the platform between June 16–23 (yep, even with just a few days in the game). The numbers? Over 8 million views and more than 53 million hours watched. Not bad for a brand-new series.
The show follows the Buckley family, whose North Carolina fishing empire is slowly unraveling—and they’re willing to do just about anything to keep control. Think family secrets, power struggles, and drama by the boatload. The cast is pretty stacked too, featuring familiar names like Jake Weary, Melissa Benoist and Holt McCallany. But one standout you might not immediately recognize is Humberly González—though chances are, you’ve definitely seen her before.

In The Waterfront, González plays Jenna Tate, a journalist who returns home to care for her sick father and ends up rekindling tension (and maybe a little chemistry) with her high school ex, Cane Buckley (Weary). Cue the messy emotions and complicated dynamics.
Before The Waterfront, González made waves in another Netflix fave: Ginny & Georgia. She played Sophie Sanchez, a confident, popular senior who dated Max (Ginny’s best friend), giving fans one of the show’s most memorable LGBTQ+ storylines.

She’s also no stranger to sci-fi fans, having starred as Brooklyn 2 in Hulu’s short-lived dystopian series Utopia Falls.
Brooke Palmer/Hulu
Her resume doesn’t stop there—she’s popped up in everything from Workin’ Moms and Jupiter’s Legacy to Orphan Black and Star Trek: Section 31. Oh, and she had a supporting role in the Bob Odenkirk action film Nobody.
TL;DR: Humberly González is booked, busy and definitely on the rise.
