A fatal shooting near Linda Vista Recreation Center in San Diego prompted a police investigation Monday morning.

SAN DIEGO — A fatal shooting occurred early Monday near the Linda Vista Recreation Center in San Diego, prompting a homicide investigation by local police.

According to the San Diego Police Department, at around 12:45 a.m., police received a call about gunshots heard near the recreation center, located at 7064 Levant Street. After arriving at the scene, officers said they found a man lying in the park, suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. 

San Diego Police Homicide Detectives were called to the scene and are investigating the incident. According to police, the motive for the shooting is currently unknown. Preliminary information revealed that the suspect approached the victim in the park and shot him. 

The suspect is described as a man in his 30s. The victim has not been identified.
