PHOENIX – A child was killed in a hit-and-run collision on Interstate 10 in west Phoenix on Sunday night, authorities said.
The two-vehicle crash occurred around 7:45 p.m. on eastbound I-10 near 75th Avenue, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. The freeway was closed for hours while the scene was under investigation.
A car carrying five people crashed into a concrete median wall after getting hit by a pickup truck, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS).
Two children who were in the car were injured in the crash. A 6-year-old died at the hospital, while a 4-year-old was listed in stable condition.
The truck driver fled the scene but was located and taken into custody at a nearby gas station, DPS said.
No other details were made available.
The investigation is ongoing.
