Jaguars WR Brian Thomas Jr., said beating KC was ‘a crazy, great experience’
The Jacksonville Jaguars beat the Kansas City Chiefs 31-28 on an improbable set of circumstances that wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr., said were “crazy, great.”
In a wild “Monday Night Football” game at EverBank Field — under a bright harvest supermoon, nonetheless — the stars were shining on the field as the Jacksonville Jaguars defeated the Kansas City Chiefs, 31-28.
On his 26th birthday, Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence threw one touchdown pass and twice ran with the ball across the goal line, including the go-ahead touchdown with just 23 seconds left on the clock. (It was the second year in a row that Lawrence scored multiple touchdowns on his Oct. 6 birthday.)
Near the end of the third quarter, Jaguars linebacker Devin Lloyd intercepted a pass from Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes to receiver Juju Smith-Schuster on the 1-yard line and ran it back 99 yards to the opposite end zone for a Jaguars touchdown — and a franchise record.
But it was rookie WR/DB Travis Hunter who arguably made one of the best plays of the night.
It came early in the third quarter with the Jaguars down 14-7.
Under pressure from Chiefs pass rushers, Lawrence threw 44 yards to Hunter, leaping high enough to make the catch as the back of his knee landed on Chiefs safety Bryan Cook’s shoulder before the pair both crashed to the ground.
It was Hunter’s longest catch of his young rookie season, and it amazed fans in the seats at EverBank Field and living rooms across the nation alike.
