Uniqlo has opened the doors of its newest store at Fashion Valley, on the second floor next to Bloomingdale’s.
To celebrate, it hosted several giveaways on opening day, which was Friday. From now through Thursday, it has discounted some products as a continued welcome to customers. These promotional prices are only valid at the Fashion Valley location, a company representative said in an email.
Men’s flannel shirts are $10 off, from $49.90 to $39.90. Men’s and women’s crew neck T-shirts are $5 off, and its PUFFTECH jackets are $10 off, reduced to $69.90. Similar jackets for kids are also $10 off. Jeans, hoodies and sweatpants are also discounted at this store only.
One note for manga fans: Shoppers at Uniqlo’s Fashion Valley store get one more perk. Its new manga curation by Berserk, described as “coming soon” online, will be available at this location before others.
Also coming soon to Fashion Valley, Amiri is opening its first San Diego store. The nearest is in Orange County’s South Coast Plaza mall. Amiri, which sells luxury branded clothing and accessories including handbags, camera cases and shoes, was founded around a decade ago in Los Angeles.
A black, white trimmed cropped women’s T-shirt made in Italy of 70% viscose and 30% polyester, is priced at $550. An oversized cotton hoodie for men in either black or cream, is priced at $850. The boutique is going next to Ferragamo.
A nose for design
San Diego’s first Diptyque fragrance, candle and home luxury boutique has opened. Using colors, materials and decorative objects, the company created a sensory retreat, as shown in this illustration. (Diptyque)
Diptyque, the French fragrance and candle company, has opened its first San Diego boutique at Westfield UTC. It is near the Apple Store and La Colombe’s cafe.
In an unusual and refreshing news release, the company shared details about the thinking that went into the design and decor of its roughly 600-square-foot space.
“This new boutique in central San Diego is designed to captivate both the senses and the mind. It guides visitors through a sequence of spaces, each devoted to a collection and its rituals. … A play on colors and materials, subtle contrasts and surprises, the San Diego boutique is the perfect place to indulge the imagination for a moment of unbridled discovery,” the design description says.
Color: The shop’s facade is painted the brand’s signature color, a saturated, foresty green that matches one container of its signature candle, 34 Boulevard Saint Germain. The interior walls are painted a mineral orange. A mural and wooden screens inlaid with stained-glass create a moody, maximalist look.
Furnishings and fixtures: The space uses a lot of wood, from the display units to pillars and countertops. A seating area toward the back lets visitors relax. A large mirror and lacquered screens and furniture are all positioned to capture the viewer’s attention.
Local art: The mural was painted by San Diego and San Miguel de Allende-based artist Rafael Lopez, “a New York Times bestselling, award winning illustrator and artist born and raised in Mexico City to architect parents,” his website says.
