TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – College basketball season is less than a month away, and a new era for Florida State men’s basketball is set to make its debut.
Fans first chance to see what the ‘Noles will look like under Luke Loucks will be against the Alabama Crimson Tide in Birmingham next Thursday at 8 p.m. in their first exhibition game of the season.
The former Seminole point guard plans to implement an NBA-style “Space and Pace” offense, focusing on a high-tempo game designed to score a lot of points have been well established, but with all that flash comes a fall program full of substance. The first year head coach is currently prioritizing the team’s conditioning and mental toughness.
“With that, you have to be in very good shape, the best shape of their lives, so that’s still a work in progress,” Loucks said. “I think our guys are getting into better basketball shape, but as their bodies and physical toughness grow, [so must] their mental toughness of telling yourself ‘I’m not tired. It doesn’t matter how bad my lungs hurt, I’m going to go produce.’ Once they get that down, then this thing can really take off.”
Following the game against Alabama, FSU will host FAMU in a highly anticipated exhibition game at the Tucker Center on Oct. 26.
