The disappointing defeat to Sevilla on Sunday evening in La Liga has sparked FC Barcelona manager Hansi Flick into action.

The German tactician intends to make use of the ongoing two-week international break to assess and discuss several things with the various departments associated with the Catalans’ first team, reports AS.

A new full-back in January?

As part of this, Flick will also meet Barcelona director Deco and the rest of the sporting leadership to analyse the situation and discuss the next course of action.

The idea of strengthening the squad in the short and medium term will be explored.

In this regard, the possibility of strengthening the squad in the January transfer window with a versatile full-back is on the table, the report claims.

The belief is that neither Jules Kounde nor Alejandro Balde has a fully reliable substitute in the right-back and left-back positions, respectively.

Eric Garcia has served as an effective option on the right side of the defence, but he has also been the team’s most reliable centre-back this season, which is where Flick will need him.

As for the left side, Gerard Martin did well in some matches during Balde’s injury-enforced absence, but the significant difference in the level between the two was apparent.

As such, Barcelona will likely explore the possibility of bringing in a versatile full-back, someone who can operate on both flanks like former star Joao Cancelo did, in the upcoming winter transfer window.

It does not guarantee that a signing will be made, but Flick, Deco & co. will discuss the matter and look for a possible solution.
