From mom-and-pop neighborhood taquerias, nondescript food trucks, and Michelin-Starred concepts: you can find unbelievable tacos anywhere in Houston. Some, however, are a little more popular on Yelp. Following its recent list highlighting the best sandwiches in the country, the user-generated tastemaking application recently published this year’s list of the best taco spots in the U.S., including multiple Houston taco joints.
As far as methodology goes, the application sought out reviews with high concentrations of the word “tacos” – from there, Yelp applied a series of factors to rank the taco spots, predominately total volume and ratings of reviews.

The list makes a point to mention how tacos have trended this past year, observing that birria tacos are still hot across the country. Additionally, Yelp highlighted the growing trend of vampiro tacos – a popular Mexican street food that featured griddled tortillas that curl in a semblance to that of bat wings; hence, vampiro.
On the list of the Top 100 Taco Spots 2025 are three Houston-area restaurants. The highest ranking Houston-area taco spot on the list is Cinco de Mayo Taqueria in Spring at No. 79, followed by La Cruderia at No. 83 and Doña Lena at No. 92.

Texas prominently features on the list. As the state with the second most taco joints on the list at 9. Other Texas taquerias placing on Yelp’s roundup of the best spots in the U.S. include the following:
- Paprika ATX in Austin (No. 3)
- Mahi Nic in South Padre Island (No. 16)
- Taqueria & Tamaleria Nuevo Leon in Carrollton (No. 30)
- Cuantos Tacos in Austin (No. 64)
- CJ’s Tacos in Austin (No. 66)
- Tacos La Catrina in Austin (No. 84)
The Lonestar State, however, was well behind the state of California – leading the list with 45 spots. The No. 1 taco spot in the U.S., according to Yelp, is Birrieria Familia Castro in North Hollywood, California.
Cinco de Mayo Taqueria is located at 5838 Louetta Rd, Spring. La Cruderia can be found in Bellaire at 8394 Bellaire Blvd. And lastly, Doña Lena at 8788 Hammerly Blvd G.
