Joy Behar, who was once kidnapped by her apartment building’s elevator, has mistaken an AI-generated woman of color for her longtime The View cohost Sunny Hostin.

During a Thursday morning interview with actor and comedian Hasan Minhaj, the 83-year-old was shown an AI image that Minhaj made before coming to set, which he teed up on the screen behind the Hot Topics table after panelist Ana Navarro brought up anxieties about artificial intelligence.

“For me, right now, AI doesn’t scare me for what it is right now, it’s what it could be,” Minhaj said. “Like, you know, I went on Google Gemini and I just typed in, ‘Hasan Minhaj The View,’ and I was like, what do you got? This is what it came up with.”

The cohosts laughed at the image, which displayed a rendering of himself seated in front of a table that said “The View” on it — which looked nothing like The View’s actual Hot Topics table — while a panel of two women sat behind it.

Both women appeared to be modeled after women of color, and Minhaj called the image “dystopian” for looking nothing like real life.

“But, that’s Sunny. Sunny’s in it,” Behar said, pointing her finger toward one of the AI-generated women who was not, in fact, Hostin, who was absent Thursday from the episode.

“No, that’s not Sunny,” Ana Navarro leaned over to say, as Sara Haines hung her head in her hands and moderator Whoopi Goldberg looked out toward the audience with a stunned look on her face.

“It’s not, that’s the weird part,” conservative commentator Alyssa Farah Griffin added, attempting to save Behar’s blunder.

Later, Behar could be heard muttering, “It looks like her” as Minhaj continued to speak.

From her post at the Hot Topics table, Goldberg has long cautioned audiences about the rise of AI — including smart devices like the Amazon Alexa.
