Fort Worth ISD trustees approved more than $68 million in contracts and purchases during their Sept. 23 meeting.
The school board signed off on a new reading program, extended academic partnerships and multiple construction agreements tied to the $1.2 billion bond voters passed in 2021.
Big-ticket items include:
- $45.4 million for the replacement of Maudrie M. Walton Elementary. The contract authorizes the district to negotiate with three construction firms for the large-scale renovation. The project is funded through the $1.2 billion bond package voters approved in 2021.
- $15 million in job order contracting services. The agreements allow FWISD to move quickly on future bond-funded construction and maintenance projects.
- $2.4 million to adopt Bluebonnet Learning’s elementary reading language arts program. The measure passed 6-3 after debate over lessons that include Bible stories. Trustees Camille Rodriguez, Wallace Bridges and Quinton Phillips dissented, with Phillips arguing the program amounted to “state-sanctioned indoctrination.”
