After an impressive international display, Arne Slot may have found himself an alternative to Mohamed Salah for Liverpool this season.
Salah’s start to the season has been unusually quiet despite his three goals and three assists in all competitions.
The Egyptian winger hasn’t been the driving force behind Liverpool’s attacks as he usually has been, which has led to some criticism from fans and pundits such as Paul Scholes, who claimed Salah is “making the wrong decisions.”

However, Slot might have accidentally uncovered a possible new alternative to consider with someone already in the squad.

Jeremie Frimpong hasn’t had the smoothest start to life at Liverpool following his transfer, but his performance for the Netherlands has reminded people of his quality.
Frimpong joined Liverpool in a £29.5 million move during the summer, and there was much expectation about what he could bring to the squad.
Unfortunately, Slot has yet to be convinced by the 24-year-old, leading to him having limited game time, primarily used as a right back.
Alan Shearer believes Slot isn’t comfortable with Frimpong at right back, but his international performance might have given him an alternative option.
However, he featured on the right wing for the Netherlands as they thrashed Malta 4-0, with a brace from Cody Gakpo and goals from Memphis Depay and Tijani Reijnders.

Nobody completed more dribbles than Frimpong’s six, and that attacking energy is exactly what Liverpool need given that Salah has completed just one of his 11 attempted dribbles this season.
Arne Slot needs to find a solution to his Mohamed Salah problem
Salah is still considered to be one of the most gifted players in world football, having finished fourth in the 2025 Ballon d’Or awards, but his drop-off has been concerning for Liverpool fans.
Salah averaged 48.6 touches per 90 minutes last season, but his average dropped to 42.6 in the 2025-26 campaign, indicating that he’s now less involved in the games.
Even more worryingly, his touches inside the opposition’s box went from 9.6 per 90 minutes last season to 5.5 this season, which is concerning given that his lowest-ever average in a full season at Liverpool is 8.5.
Given Salah’s potential impact on the team’s performances, Slot will have to address the situation to boost Liverpool’s Premier League aspirations.
It remains to be seen whether that’s by resting him and giving Frimpong an opportunity in a more attacking role, but the Dutch star has proven he’s capable of taking on that pressure.
