NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. – The Nassau County Sheriff’s Office closed a cold case of a Jacksonville man who was killed over 40 years ago.
On May 28, 1983, Delbert “Lou” Luzader left his home and went to Playbill’s Liquor & Package store in Callahan. NCSO said his body was found wrapped in sheets off Crawford Road in Callahan on Oct. 18, 1983.
His 1970s Ford Ranger was never recovered and may have been sold in South Carolina, NCSO said.
An investigation by the cold case unit revealed that David Wyatt Jones admitted to discarding Luzader’s remains and led investigators to where he buried the body.
Jones was also convicted of the 1986 murder of Jasper Highsmith and the 1995 murder of Lori McRae.
Jones died of natural causes while waiting execution on death row for murdering McRae.
Investigators said Jones was involved in three murders sharing the same methods. Law enforcement agencies with unsolved cases with similar characteristics are asked to call NCSO for potential connections.
