PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A woman shot and killed her ex-boyfriend after he reportedly forced his way into her apartment in south Phoenix on Friday night.
At about 11:25 p.m., first responders were dispatched to a call of threats made at an apartment near 32nd Street and Southern Avenue.
When officers arrived, they found a woman outside with her two children, and she told them that she had shot her ex-boyfriend and that he was still inside her apartment.
Police entered the unit and found the man, described as in his late 20s, unresponsive with a gunshot wound. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died.
Detectives said the man and the woman had recently ended their relationship, and he “came over” and “forced his way into the apartment,” before the woman shot him.
The woman spoke with investigators and was released after detectives consulted with the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, according to police.
This incident remains under investigation, and a charging decision will be made once it is complete.
Police are working to notify next of kin.
