DiJonai Carrington sent a message to her girlriend NaLyssa Smith to congratulate her on winning the WNBA championship on Friday night.
The Las Vegas Aces beat the Phoenix Mercury 97-86 in Game 4 to sweep the finals and win their third championship in four years. Carrington began this season with the Dallas Wings before being traded to the Minnesota Lynx in August. Smith began the season with the Wings as well before being traded to the Aces in late June. Now Smith is a champion.
“My baby is a WNBA champion,” Carrington wrote in her note. “I’m so so freaking proud of you!!!!! You were the turning point of the season @NaLyssaSmith !!!! I love you beyond words!”

Carrington is giving her girlfriend Smith lots of credit by calling her the Aces’ turning point of the season. Smith had 5 points and 5 rebounds in 23 minutes during Game 4. The 25-year-old averaged 8.2 points and 5.3 rebounds per game in 27 regular-season contests with the Aces. She averaged 6.7 points and 4.9 rebounds per game in 18 regular-season contests with the Wings.
This was Smith’s fourth season in the WNBA since becoming the No. 2 overall pick in the 2022 draft. It didn’t take her long to win her first championship — thanks largely to the trade to the Aces.
