Police say officers responded to a report of a threat at the home.

Police said officers were responding to a threat call at the home. When officers got to the house, they found the woman outside with her two children. She told the officers she had shot the man.

The man was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

Police said preliminary information suggests that the two had recently ended a relationship. The man came over to the woman’s apartment and forced his way inside when the woman then reportedly shot the man.

“After consulting with the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office on this case, the woman was released,” officials with the Phoenix Police Department said. “This investigation remains active. A charging decision will be made once the investigation is complete.”

This is a developing story; additional details will be added as they become available.
