Oklahoma State University fell to Houston at home in Stillwater, just weeks after OSU fired longtime Head Coach Mike Gundy.

The physical and solid Houston Cougars come away with a 39-17 victory Saturday at Boone Pickens Stadium.

Though Houston led 17-10 with 5.5 minutes to go before halftime, the game really shifted to the Cougars’ favor in the third quarter.

While OSU’s offense gave up too many big plays, you have to give credit to quarterback Sam Jackson V, who came to OSU as a receiver and had to fill in as QB in this game. Jackson had played the position at California and TCU, but switched to receiver full-time at Auburn.

OSU’s defense showed promise in some long stretches of the game, but it wasn’t enough. The Cowboys just couldn’t stop Houston QB Connor Weigman, who had a big day with 306 yards passing and a couple of touchdowns.

Oklahoma State continues to await the return of Hauss Hejny, who suffered a foot injury in OSU’s season opener, but it looks like that wait will continue.
