SAN ANTONIO — A 34-year-old inmate who was hospitalized after sustaining injuries during an aggravated robbery died at University Hospital on Sunday, according to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.

Victor Cadena was arrested by San Antonio Police Department officers on Oct. 4. He was transported directly to University Hospital and booked by proxy due to the extent of his injuries, BCSO said.

In accordance with the Sandra Bland Act, the Bexar County Constables Office Pct 2 is handling the death investigation. The Bexar County Medical Examiner will ultimately rule on the cause and manner of death.

As standard protocol dictates, the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office Internal Affairs Unit is conducting a separate, concurrent administrative review. The Texas Commission on Jail Standards has been notified.

Cadena was pronounced deceased at 8:34 a.m. on Sunday, according to BCSO.
