Re “Why gas may soon cost $8 a gallon in California” (June 20): California governments are at war with the citizenry. With gas prices nationally at a four-year low, state policies and taxes are pushing our prices to all-time highs.

Locally, the city is raising parking rates and fines, while adding paid parking to Balboa Park.

In addition, we now have the garbage levy as part of our property tax bills.

And who gets hurt the most? As usual, the needy — fixed-income and low-income residents.

Where is the outrage? Uninformed and apathetic citizens are the true threat to democracy.
