Tyler Reddick and wife Alexa finally have some answers regarding their son Rookie’s health scare. They have a date when the infant will undergo surgery to remove his right kidney.
Alexa provided the update on Instagram on Sunday as Reddick prepared to compete at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. She posted that Rookie will have surgery on Tuesday. He will then return to the ICU where doctors will monitor his heart and BP levels while his renin slowly drops.
“Please keep lifting our cookie up in prayer,” Alexa posted on her Instagram Stories.
Alexa first revealed on Sept. 28 that her and Reddick’s son was dealing with major health concerns. She wrote that Rookie had shown signs of heart failure. They took him to Levine’s Children’s Hospital, where he spent time in the cardiovascular ICU.
The major update from the Reddick family revealed that Rookie had a tumor that was choking the renal vein and renal artery. This told the heart to pump harder, which caused an enlarged heart. Alexa said that Rookie would have to undergo open surgery to remove his right kidney.
“They expect his heart to fully recover because it was just an innocent bystander,” Alexa wrote. “We have answers but a journey ahead to bring our little Cookie home.”
Reddick has not been as present while the family has dealt with this health scare. His job has forced him to travel to Kansas and Nevada. This has taken a toll on Reddick as he has tried to manage these parts of his life.
“I think you just try to be as present as you can,” Reddick said last weekend at the Charlotte Roval. “Whether that’s on the phone like I was in Kansas or in person like I was this week.
“Just be there as much as I can. Me and Alexa feel, right now, good enough for me to be here today.”
