Two years ago, Reece Potter graduated from Lexington Catholic and headed up to Miami (OH) where he would begin his college basketball career.
The 7’1 big man would spend two seasons playing for the RedHawks but fast forward to this off-season and his dream of playing for the University of Kentucky came calling.
Head coach Mark Pope has now had two off-seasons where he has had to either start from scratch (2024) or replace a ton of veteran production (2025) and that has been led to him being a wizard when it comes to the transfer portal.
In early May, Potter committed to transfer to Kentucky. While he probably had more opportunity for extended minutes at Miami (OH), he couldn’t pass up the opportunity to wear the Kentucky uniform and represent his dream school.
With Kentucky having a rather stacked front court, Potter’s role may be quite a bit less this year than his first two seasons of college basketball. However, he’ll have every opportunity to improve his game/get stronger and be ready to go a season or two from now.
His play style perfectly fits what Pope and his staff want to do on the court, so one would think Potter’s time will come.
