At halftime of “Sunday Night Football,” the Kansas City Chiefs lead the Detroit Lions 13-10.

Things got started in an interesting way as the Lions won the toss and chose to receive the ball, then matriculated it downfield with a drive that took nearly 10 minutes off the clock. They actually scored on a trick play on fourth-and-goal from the 1-yard line with a David Montgomery passing touchdown to Jared Goff, but the score was taken off the board thanks to an illegal motion penalty and they had to settle for a field goal.

While the Lions went slowly on their opening possession, the Chiefs sped things up, quickly getting deep into Detroit territory thanks to several big plays in the passing game. Faced with their own fourth down, the Chiefs also went for it, but they managed to convert with a Patrick Mahomes touchdown pass to Xavier Worthy on a rub route into the flat, giving Kansas City its first lead of the night.

The Lions responded to that drive with a touchdown of their own as they again moved the ball methodically down the field before Goff found Jameson Williams on a crossing route over the middle and Williams bounced off a pair of defenders and into the end zone to retake the lead.

The teams then continued to go for it on fourth down, but they did so with different results. Kansas City had a fourth-and-1 deep in Lions territory, but came up short when Mahomes’ pass for Worthy fell incomplete. Detroit had a fourth-and-2 just over midfield, but came up short when Amon-Ra St. Brown couldn’t haul in a lowish pass from Goff.

That failed fourth down set the Chiefs up with good field position, and they took advantage by moving deep into Lions territory thanks to a few underneath passes and then a pass interference penalty. Mahomes then booted out on an option keeper and took it into the end zone to give the Chiefs their halftime advantage.

Will the Chiefs hang on to the lead, or will the Lions stage a comeback? We’ll find out soon enough. In the meantime, keep it locked to our live blog throughout the rest of the evening as we update you with stats, scores and highlights.
