Jacksonville Jaguars star rookie Travis Hunter was baptized on Sunday, hours before the Jags’ home game against the Seattle Seahawks at EverBank Stadium.
Hunter, 22, was baptized at Celebration Church in Jacksonville.
“It’s Sunday. It’s God’s day,” Hunter said, according to ESPN. “I’ve been planning to get baptized for a minute. I changed my life over to become a better man.
“It means a lot. I’m becoming a better man and leaving my old self and starting a new chapter,” he added.
Following Hunter’s baptism on Sunday, the two-way star recorded four catches for 15 yards and made two tackles in the Jags’ 20-12 loss to the Seahawks.
Video of Hunter’s baptism went viral online after it was shared by Instagram user @cali2jax.
“Couldn’t find my keys this morning and was late for church, only to come upon Jacksonville Jaguars Travis Hunter getting baptized!,” the Instagram post caption read.
Hunter, the 2024 Heisman Trophy winner at the University of Colorado, was drafted by the Jags with the second pick in the 2024 NFL Draft after Jacksonville traded up with the Cleveland Browns. Through six games in his rookie season, Hunter has 20 receptions for 197 yards at wide receiver, as well as 15 tackles and two pass deflections at defensive back.
