Popular Japanese fashion brand Uniqlo is set to open two new stores in the Chicago area, with one at a busy suburban mall and another on the Magnificent Mile.
The openings are part of an 11-store expansion from Uniqlo, with a new more stores opening next spring and summer in San Francisco, Boston, Seattle, Maryland and Washington D.C.
“Our strategy is about thoughtful growth – opening the right stores in the right places – while ensuring every location reflects our customer’s voices and delivers a meaningful, high-quality experience,” Fuminori Adachi, UNIQLO USA CEO said in a release.
According to the release, the new stores will include self-checkout stations, alternation services and RE.UNIQLO donation bins. Some stores will also offer customizable t-shirt and tote-bag services, as well as embroidery.
The downtown Chicago store, dubbed a “flagship location,” will be located at 600 N. Michigan Avenue, Uniqlo said. It comes four years after the brand’s store at 830 N. Michigan Ave. shuttered.
The suburban Uniqlo location will be inside Oakbrook Mall, the release said.
The stores mark the third and fourth locations in Illinois, with other Uniqlo locations downtown on State Street and in Schaumburg at Woodfield Mall.
According to the company, the stores are set to open in 2026. Further details on opening dates were not provided.
The brand began in 1984 in Hiroshima, Japan, selling unisex casualwear and was originally called “Unique Clothing Warehouse.” The apparel brand is part of Fast Retailing Ltd., which also owns Theory, J Brand and Helmut Lang.
