LAKE PLACID, N.Y. (WCAX) – A popular hiking and skiing welcome center in the Adirondacks that closed in August is now up for sale.
A new property listing shows the Cascade Welcome Center in Lake Placid for sale.
Adirondack Mountain Club Executive Director Cortney Worrall said they’re asking around $2.8 million for the welcome center.
That’s $300,000 more than what the club bought it for in 2022.
Worrall said the decision to sell will allow the organization to focus on its Heart Lake Program Center and educational services.
“It does have to do with the prospect of long-term funding. It has to do that we are a nonprofit, we are not a for-profit ski center or for-profit organization. I think that plays a major role,” Worrall said.
She said they will return $20,000 in grant funding back to the state once a sale goes through.
This means that the property is now off limits to hikers, skiers and walkers.
