Coronado police were investigating an incident involving two students at the middle school on Tuesday morning.
According to CPD, the incident occurred at 10:20 a.m. at the educational campus on F Avenue. School officials said in a post on social media that one of the students was hospitalized after the attack.
Multiple students, who were with their parents when NBC 7 spoke with them, said a boy stabbed a girl in the library. One of the middle-schoolers said he witnessed the attack and that the girl was on the ground screaming afterward and tried to run away. The witness also said that he thought the victim and her attacker were friends and was not sure why the attack occurred.
Police said that both students involved were located after their arrival and that there “is no active threat to students or staff at this time.”
While the school was not locked down, officer did conduct a security sweep of the campus out of an abundance of caution. Childen were held in their homerooms for a period as police investigated, and multiple parents arrived at the school to take their kids out early.
The victim’s condition is not known at this time.
