At this point last year, SMU men’s basketball was preparing for the challenges that come with facing some of the ACC’s toughest teams. Now, Andy Enfield’s group is one of the conference’s teams to watch.

The Mustangs were projected to finish sixth in the ACC’s 2025-26 preseason poll. The five programs ranked ahead of SMU were Duke, Louisville, North Carolina, North Carolina State and Virginia.

SMU’s projected finish is similar to where the Mustangs finished the 2024-25 regular season. SMU went 24-11 last year, posting a 13-7 record in ACC play to finish sixth in the conference’s standings. The Mustangs later advanced to the ACC men’s basketball tournament’s quarterfinals and earned an NIT berth.
