New posters for Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein have dropped. The posters prominently featured Oscar Isaac’s Victor Frankenstein while discreetly teasing Jacob Elori’s performance as Frankenstein’s monster. From the trailer and production material alone, the narrative seems to closely follow the original work written by Mary Shelley. The accomplished English novelist is most famous for Frankenstein, but is an accomplished horror author with a number of prominent stories under her belt.

Until now, many movies and media have largely chosen to depict Frankenstein’s Monster closer to its 1931 Universal Studios appearance. In the Universal version of the film, the monster is depicted with green skin and a hulking but proportionate body, largely adorned with stitches. This depiction deviates from the original source material and feels more like a true monster than an amalgamation of man. Nevertheless, from the promotional material alone, it appears that Guillermo del Toro’s version of the creature will fit Mary Shelley’s original narrative.

Guillermo del Toro is a huge figure in the movie industry, and his films are widely known for being equally creative and entertaining. He is the writer for many notable movies, including The Shape of Water, Pinocchio, Pan’s Labyrinth, and the Hellboy series. While some of his movies are definitely more gripping than others, nearly all of his projects are a pleasure to watch. Del Toro masterfully creates and interprets macabre worlds that leave lasting impressions on his audiences.

It is very possible that Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, in theatres October 17th, could become one of the best horror movies of the season. He is widely considered one of the best writers and directors of this generation, for good reason. If del Toro can stick to the original narrative while incorporating his own creative flair, there is no doubt that this film will become a seasonal and possibly yearly highlight.

In the end, the recently released promotional material paints a promising picture for the feature film. Guillermo del Toro’s adaptation of Frankenstein could very well become the de facto version of the characters going forward. Hopefully, this film’s success could lead to other creative horror endeavors del Toro has long wished to create, like an adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s At the Mountains of Madness.
