Andrew Johannsen waited all year for one putt. The Johnston senior, who had a chance to win it all last year, made it to Hole 18 of the Boys’ 4A State Golf Championship with a 1-shot lead over both Waukee’s Jonathan Ward and North Scott’s Jaxon Adkisson. Johannsen had to make a five-foot par putt to seal the win at Hyperion Fields. A missed putt would lead to a 3-man playoff. You could feel the tension in the air.”I was incredibly nervous,” he said. “I’ve been working really hard to get to that point this year, and to finally get to it was very nerve-racking.”Johannsen delivered. He put just enough power on the putt, which dropped in to give him the 1-shot victory at -2.”I kind of experienced it last year,” he said. “I kind of knew what I needed to do. I took a lot of deep breaths. I closed my eyes and thought about making it. Visualization is key. See yourself make putts in order to make putts. That’s what I did, and fortunately it went in.”Dowling Catholic won the team title by 10 strokes. The 3A, 2A, and 1A State Golf Championships will be held in the Spring.LEADERBOARD
