PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Your next DoorDash order could be delivered to you without anyone actually making the delivery.
Waymo has announced a partnership with DoorDash to begin delivering some orders in the Phoenix area with its autonomous vehicles.
Customers who place orders on DoorDash within Waymo’s 315-square mile service area in the Valley could be greeted with a fully autonomous Waymo vehicle making the delivery.
“We are excited to make everyday errands easier with the Waymo Driver, offering the added peace of mind that comes with our safe and reliable technology,” said Nicole Gavel, head of Business Development and Strategic Partnerships at Waymo. “Through our partnership with DoorDash, we leverage our proven delivery experience to provide customers with a seamless, contact-free way to get items they need, whether it’s groceries or a quick bite.”
The companies say the new service offers increased safety, convenience and sustainability to customers.
What to expect
The companies say it’s simple to get a Waymo to deliver your order. Customers will need to opt into autonomous vehicle delivery when checking out on DoorDash for a chance at a Waymo delivery.
The service will start with orders from DashMart, which is DoorDash’s line of convenience and grocery stores. It will later expand with more local merchants who can opt into the service.
When a Waymo vehicle arrives with your order, just open the trunk with your DoorDash app and grab your items.
Starting Oct. 16, members of DoorDash’s DashPass program can get a special promotional offering for Waymo’s service to get familiar with how it works.
