Gary Legg was charged in 2024 for the shooting death of Courtney McCoy in Jacksonville.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The man accused of manslaughter in the shooting death of a 19-year-old woman in Jacksonville is pleading guilty to the charge six years later.

Gary Legg, 26, changed his plea to guilty on Wednesday and now awaits sentencing for what happened inside the residence on Labelle Street in 2019. Legg and the victim, identified by family as Courtney McCoy, were said to have been there with several other people that April when she was shot in the torso.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said McCoy ultimately died at the hospital during surgery.

JSO arrested Legg for the shooting in January 2024. In a social media post, the agency said it had determined Legg and the victim “were together at some point, and a firearm that was in the possession of the suspect discharged,” striking McCoy.

According to court records, his sentencing will be set on Nov. 3.
