Oregon State tight end Riley Williams is out for the remainder of the 2025 season.

Williams — a former star for Central Catholic High School in Portland — suffered a torn labrum in his shoulder in OSU’s second game of the season against Fresno State, his father Antwain told The Oregonian/OregonLive on Friday.

Williams, the junior transfer from Miami, played through the injury for the remainder of the game. He and OSU staff didn’t know it was torn until Williams got imaging done in the weeks after. Prior to his injury, Williams started at tight end for the Beavers alongside Bryce Caufield.

Just days before he was set to have shoulder surgery, Williams suffered another setback.

Williams ended up in the ER and underwent an emergency appendectomy, his father said. He had to reschedule the shoulder surgery and will use the remainder of 2025 to heal up for next year.

“The staff was kind and gave him space to digest everything,” Antwain Williams said. “Being hurt can take a mental toll, especially two unfortunate events. He’s just taking steps day by day.”

Williams was a four-star recruit out of IMG Academy, having transferred to the Florida prep school from Central Catholic for his senior year of high school. He spent two seasons playing for Mario Cristobal at Miami and appeared in just two games for OSU this season.

Williams will presumably seek a medical redshirt to maintain two more seasons of eligibility.
