Barcelona youngster Toni Fernandez is hoping for more minutes after making his La Liga debut on Saturday against Girona.
Hansi Flick handed Fernandez a start and used him as a false 9 in the first half. The teenager admitted it had been a little difficult adjusting to the position but feels he is ready for more playing time with the senior squad.
“I hadn’t played for a while and was a bit clumsy as a false 9. But I believe I can perform well in any attacking position,” he told the media.
“No doubt the level is much higher, and the pace is faster, but honestly, I see myself ready to help the team.”
Fernandez also revealed how Ronald Araujo told him he would score before he was sent on as a late substitute and grabbed the winning goal.
“Before Araujo came on, he said ‘I am going in as a number 9, and I’m going to scoore,” he added. “We all laughed on the bench… but that’s exactly what happened when he came on.”
