DALLAS COUNTY, Ala. (WSFA) – A football game between Maplesville and Keith Middle-High school in Dallas County was canceled Friday night after gunfire rang out near the stadium.
The game was halted to ensure the safety of all students and spectators before the school administration ultimately made the call to cancel the game.
This is the second time this year that an Alabama high school game has been ended early by gunfire near a stadium after a Lanett-Lafayette game was cut short last month for the same reason.
In a Facebook post Saturday night, school officials clarified that the shooting did not happen on campus, but in a nearby neighborhood.
“The Keith Middle-High School campus is clear, and everyone is safe. This was an isolated incident that was not connected to KMHS students or spectators in any way,” Principal Tommy J. Tisdale said.
WSFA reached out to the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office for a statement but have not heard back.
