Nearly 7 million people attended the “No Kings” anti-authoritarian protests over the weekend, which took place in more than 2,700 cities across all 50 states (naturally, President Donald Trump and the right had a lot to say about it). In downtown Los Angeles, among those protesting was actor Pedro Pascal.
Pascal posted photos of the protest on Instagram, where he was seen proudly in the streets alongside other attendees. “Protect democracy,” his caption read. He was also seen holding a sign that read, “No kings, only queens.”
John Cusack, Justine Lupe, and Kerry Washington were among the other stars who participated across the country. “Sending so much love and gratitude to everyone who showed out for #NoKings today!” Washington wrote.
Hundreds of thousands attended the protest in Washington D.C., where Rolling Stone was on the ground reporting the scene. “We’re here representing normal people — regular, peaceful Americans — who are against what this administration is doing, who are against the occupation of our cities and the disappearing of our neighbors off the streets,” Jermaine Collins, a 34-year-old veteran of the war in Afghanistan, told us.

Pascal — who recently starred in the films Fantastic Four: First Steps, Materialists, Eddington, and the shocking second season of The Last of Us — has long been outspoken about the Trump administration. He’s been vocal about immigration policies, supported Planned Parenthood, and fought for free speech.
He also called out J.K. Rowling’s relentless anti-trans stance as “heinous loser behavior” last spring, then doubled down on it months later. ““The one thing that I would say I agonized over a little bit was just, ‘Am I helping? Am I fucking helping?’” he said. “It’s a situation that deserves the utmost elegance so that something can actually happen, and people will actually be protected. Listen, I want to protect the people I love. But it goes beyond that. Bullies make me fucking sick.”
