You can vote early through October 31st.

SAN ANTONIO — Today is the first day of early voting. The ballot is stacked with big decisions for not just Texas, but the city and county as well.

Polls opened at 8 a.m. Monday morning and they’ll stay open until 6 p.m.

People love the Stock Show and Rodeo and the Spurs, but don’t think about voting while wearing any logos related to either one.

Michele Carew, the Bexar County elections administrator told us, “Unfortunately, their logos will not be allowed within 100 feet of the polling location. You know, you’re welcome to have it up until that point, but they should be made aware that they may be asked to turn their shirt inside out.”

Jon Taylor, a UTSA political science professor added, “Now you can stand 100 feet from the polling station and wear that Spurs jersey to your heart’s content and say, ‘vote prop A and prop B,’ but you can’t do it inside the voting booth, in the voting center itself.”

You may not be able to wear logos representing anything on the ballot, so don’t bring those, but do make sure to bring your ID.

“Every voter must bring one of the approved forms of ID. They’re available on our website as well as Secretary of State,” Carew said. “It ranges anywhere from driver’s license to handgun license.”

When it comes to the ballot, Bexar County leaders are pushing for two big changes with Propositions A and B. Proposition A involves Bexar County spending $193 million to upgrade the Frost Bank Center and Freeman Coliseum, allowing the Stock Show and rodeo to transform both properties to support the east side. Prop B has Bexar County giving $311 million to build a new Spurs arena under Project Marvel. The City would throw in $489 million, with the Spurs committing half a billion to bring the total to $1.3 billion. Bexar County Judge Peter Sakai says the money would come from hotel and tourism, not homeowners.

When it comes to state measures, there are 17 of them. That includes Prop 3 which would require judges to deny bail for people accused of committing specific felonies like murder, aggravated assault and indecency with a child. Prop 10 would provide for a tax exemption on homes destroyed by fire. And Prop 16 would clarify citizenship requirements for voters, allowing local residents who are not citizens to vote in local elections

Carew also says don’t be discouraged by long lines.

“Each location has multiple check in stations now, so the check in process will be fast, but the voting is what’s going to take some time,” Carew said.

Early voting runs until Oct. 31.
