New York’s always been a hotbed of pan-Asian supermarkets, from Queens-born Korean supermarket chain H Mart to smaller Japanese specialty markets like Sunrise Mart. And now, a big new contender from California is making its New York City debut. 99 Ranch is opening its first New York City proper location in Queens, along with its food hall Eat Up. Both are opening in Flushing at 37-11 Main Street, between 37th and 38th avenues, as reported by the Real Deal. There is no scheduled opening date as of yet.
99 Ranch’s Flushing market will have 22,000 square feet of space for its wide array of pan-Asian foods, snacks, products, produce, meats, seafood, baked goods, condiments, and much more. And then upstairs will be its food hall, Eat Up, which will have 22 food stalls, plus 6,880 square feet of dining room space for 158 seats, per plans by the Kinetic Real Estate Group. Eater has reached out for more information.
The Main Street address had most recently been a location of the national chain Hong Kong Supermarket, which closed in 2024 (the Chinatown location remains open); and, before that, Busy Bee Mall.
99 Ranch started in 1984 in Westminster by Roger Chen. And since then, the company has grown into one of the biggest supermarkets in the country. It’s expanded with more than 60 locations across the country. The three closest stores to New York City are in New Jersey (Jersey City and Hackensack) and on Long Island (Westbury). The company just opened its newest location in Aliso Viejo, California, back in April.
