UConn linebacker Bryun Parham is in rarefied air this week, after being named the Walter Camp National FBS Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday.

Parham, a senior from Long Beach, Calif., had a game-high 14 tackles (9 solo) and two sacks in UConn’s 38-23 win at Boston College on Saturday. The 5-11, 223-pound linebacker led a Husky defensive unit that recorded seven sacks on the day. It was UConn’s first win over a power four conference opponent on the road since 2012.

The recognition marks the second time a UConn player has earned Walter Camp National Player of Week honors. Parham joins former Husky linebacker Sio Moore (October 31, 2010) as a Player of Week honoree.

Parham has been one of the nation’s best defensive players statistically this season. He ranks fourth nationally in sacks, with 8.5 on the year. He’s also UConn’s team leader with 61 tackles, which ranks 21st in the country, and ranks 11th in all of FBS in tackles for loss, averaging 1.5 per game. He’s also forced a fumble and recovered three this season.

Parham joined UConn this season after spending three years at San Jose State and one at Washington.

The Walter Camp Football Foundation has honored one offensive and one defensive player per week during the regular season since 2004. It is the nation’s longest running Player of Week award.
