The Dallas Cowboys are reportedly big-game hunting for help along the edge.
According to former ESPN SportsCenter anchor Trey Wingo, the Cowboys have called the Las Vegas Raiders about star edge rusher Maxx Crosby.
“Breaking: according to sources the Dallas Cowboys have made inquiries with the Raiders about a potential trade for Maxx Crosby,” Wingo reported.
Wingo did not say how receptive the Raiders were to the Cowboys’ inquiry, so that remains to be seen.
Crosby has been the center of trade rumors and speculation for a few years now as the Raiders continue to stink on a yearly basis. Crosby has expressed his frustration with all the losing in the past, but there has been no indication he wants to be traded, nor any indication the Raiders are willing to deal him.
That said, we can’t rule out Crosby being moved. The Raiders are going nowhere in 2025 and the future doesn’t look very bright, either. At 28, Crosby might desire a change of scenery and an actual chance to win.
Dallas’ need along the edge is obvious. Dallas has not been able to replace the sack production lost after the Micah Parsons trade and the Cowboys currently sit with 15 sacks through seven games, and one-third of those came against the New York Jets.
Crosby would be just what the doctor ordered for Dallas.
He’s one of the better edge rushers in the NFL and has tallied 63.5 sacks over 102 career games (96 starts). He has also been voted to four Pro Bowls and has three All-Pro selections.
Through seven games this season, Crosby has posted four sacks and 25 pressures, which rank tied for 20th and 18th, respectively.
Because of how good Crosby is, and with edge rusher being a premium position, it’s going to cost a pretty penny to acquire him. Furthermore, if the Raiders aren’t keen on giving Crosby up, that will only drive up the price more.
That said, the Cowboys have the draft capital to pull it off, with the team owning a pair of first-round picks and a second-rounder in 2026.
Softening the blow of giving up significant draft capital is the fact that Crosby is under contract through 2029, so he won’t simply be a rental.
If Crosby is available at the deadline, the Cowboys should immediately pounce. He is one of the few players around the NFL who could make the major impact Dallas’ putrid defense desperately needs.
