(TNND) — The body discovered near the vacant Ada H. Lewis Middle School in Philadelphia’s East Germantown neighborhood has been identified as 23-year-old Kada Scott, according to police sources and local media outlets.
Scott, who lived in East Mount Airy, had been missing for about two weeks. Her family reported her missing on Oct. 5, after she was last seen leaving her job at an assisted living facility in the Chestnut Hill section of Philadelphia the previous night.
Police found Scott’s remains in a shallow grave in a wooded area behind the school on Saturday, following an anonymous tip, according to ABC News. DNA testing confirmed the identity of the remains. Philadelphia police, assisted by New Jersey State Police dogs, had been searching for Scott for days, even shutting down the academy so 300 recruits could aid in the search.
Authorities have connected 21-year-old Keon King to Scott’s disappearance, who turned himself in on Oct. 14. King is currently held on $250,000 cash bail, facing charges of kidnapping, false imprisonment, stalking, criminal use of communication facility, recklessly endangering another person and tampering with evidence, according to NBC News. He has also been charged with Arson, according to CBS News, for the alleged torching of the Hyundai Accent police say was stolen a day before Scott went missing and used to drive her body to the middle school property.
Investigators said they have video of King from a nearby recreation center as well as cell phone data that places him at that location.
He has not yet entered a plea on the charges.
Police said Scott left work the night of Oct. 4, meeting up with King. Sources close to the case said evidence shows she was killed about 20 minutes later. Investigators have not said how Scott died and are not detailing how the two knew each other.
Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner noted at a Monday news conference that King has a history of similar charges, with previous charges in two other violent incidents withdrawn. The district attorney’s office plans to refile those charges.
Authorities continue to encourage the public to provide any additional information that could aid in the investigation.
