Gauff, the French Open champion in 2025, is the world number three, and yet for some reason, she never seems to be too far away from criticism.
Lindsay Davenport has defended Gauff for her form at the end of 2025, with the American securing the Wuhan Open last week to claim another gong.
Recently, a former coach of Serena Williams made a serve prediction about Gauff for 2026, and it remains to be seen whether something can improve in that sense.
The 21-year-old has clocked up 405 double faults this year alone, and she’s enlisted the help of tennis coach Gavin MacMillan to try and help her combat that flaw in her game.

MacMillan has been on the Tennis Channel recently to discuss all things tennis, with the serve naturally the main focus of the interview.
The serve is comfortably one of the most challenging shots to master in tennis, and it’s something that even for professional players can take years to master.
MacMillan said: “The simplest thing is that your left arm dictates how you rotate and how you go up.
Your left arm, if it falls down, it pulls your right arm down. If your left arm pulls open wide to your left on your forehand, then you over-rotate.
“Learning that your left arm has to be on the right side of your head if you are a right-hander on the toss, that would be a simple thing that anybody can start learning.
“It allows you to get under the ball as opposed to hitting it forward and flat.
“Guys that are big, you look at this kid Perricard, we were in Dubai a few years ago, and he was practising with Khachanov, and his motion wasn’t fully together yet. But you knew at 6ft 8, we were talking about completely different geometry.
“So now even if his serve motion is not perfect, if he is hitting down on it too much, so what?
“But now, when you’re dealing with somebody like me or Coco, where we don’t have a foot of height on us, you’d better make sure you are hitting up, and if your left arm is not in the right place, you cannot get your body underneath it, and it’s really tough to hit up.

Gauff has been trying to emulate Novak Djokovic, with the Serbian making a tweak to his serve earlier in his career that helped him dominate.
That doesn’t come as too much of a surprise, either, given that Gauff is desperate to start winning more Grand Slam titles, or at the very least reach more semifinals and finals.
The number of double faults this year is mind-blowing but Gauff can take inspiration from Aryna Sabalenka, who had a similar issue in 2022.

With the help of the respected coach MacMillan, helping her along the way, this could be exciting times for Gauff and her army of supporters keen to see her do well.
Given that she’s won big titles this year it doesn’t feel as though things are too far away and given that she’s still only 21, it might not be long before Gauff’s career truly scales new heights.
