These streets will be closed during Shell Freedom Over Texas

Before you head out to catch the fireworks and festivities at Shell Freedom Over Texas, make sure you know which streets will be closed and when.

Here’s a breakdown of street closures and parking restrictions happening in and around Buffalo Bayou Park ahead of the big celebration:

Pre-event traffic message boards

Thursday, June 26 – Saturday, July 5, Electronic signs will be placed around key intersections to notify drivers of upcoming closures:

  • Allen Parkway outbound at Bagby (Heritage Society side)

  • Walker at Bagby (near Hobby Center)

  • Allen Parkway at Shepherd

  • Allen Parkway at Damico Street

No parking zones

Monday, June 30, 6 a.m. – Saturday, July 5, 7 a.m. No parking signs will go up on several streets, including:

  • Gillette between West Dallas and Allen Parkway (east curb lane)

  • Crosby between West Dallas and Allen Parkway

  • Heiner between Allen Parkway inbound and West Dallas

  • Sabine between Memorial and Allen Parkway (both sides)

  • West Dallas between I-45 and Waugh

  • Memorial Drive between Waugh and Bagby (inlet parking areas)

  • Taft between West Dallas and Allen Parkway

  • Streets in the Temple Terrace neighborhood

  • N. Memorial Way, Hemphill, State, and Lubbock streets near Buffalo Bayou Park

Metered parking closures

Wednesday, June 25, 7 a.m. – Sunday, July 6, 5 p.m.

  • Metered parking along Buffalo Bayou Park between Sabine and Taft

  • City Hall Annex surface lot (July 2, 5 p.m. – July 5, 7 a.m.)

  • Allen Parkway exit and entrance ramps at I-45

  • Allen Parkway outbound at Bagby

  • Allen Parkway inbound at Taft

  • Sabine Street at Memorial and at the bridge

  • Gillette Street near the federal building

  • Walker and Sabine Street

  • Crosby at West Dallas

  • Heiner at West Dallas

Friday, July 4, 8 a.m. – 11 p.m.

  • Bagby northbound at Dallas

  • Lamar between Smith and Bagby

  • Brazos at Dallas

Friday, July 4, 3 p.m. – 11 p.m.

Friday, July 4, 5 p.m. – 10:30 p.m.

  • Sawyer at Washington Avenue

  • Allen Parkway inbound at Waugh

  • Allen Parkway service road at Montrose (open to residents only)

  • Memorial inbound at Waugh

  • Memorial outbound at Bagby

Friday, July 4, 9 p.m. – 10 p.m. (during fireworks)

  • Sabine between Allen Parkway and Memorial

Note: The Buffalo Bayou waterway will be closed to boat traffic Friday, July 4, from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. between the Capitol Street Bridge and Montrose Boulevard/Studemont Street.

Special traffic notes

West Dallas Street (north curb lane between I-45 and Gillette) will serve as a designated lane for METRO VIP shuttle buses during the event.
