All eight WTA Guangzhou round of 16 matches will be played on Day 4. Former French Open quarterfinalist Yulia Putintseva and Americans Ann Li and Katie Volynets are all scheduled to play. We at LWOT predict the other matches, including Caty McNally vs Ajla Tomljanovic, in a separate article.
WTA Guangzhou Day 4 Predictions
Ann Li vs Camila Osorio
Head-to-head: Osorio 2-1 Li
Osorio overcame Li 7-5 6-7 7-5 less than a month ago in Beijing. The Colombian did very well to handle her opponent’s powerful forehand and use her defensive skills. Nonetheless, I still think Li’s best tennis is superior to Osorio’s. If the No. 2 seed in Guangzhou implements her aggression with more precision than in their previous meeting, she will win.
Prediction: Li in 3
Xiyu Wang vs Elisabetta Cocciaretto
Head-to-head: Cocciaretto 2-1 Wang
Wang defeated Francesca Jones in the opening round, while Cocciaretto beat Diane Parry. The home favorite relies heavily on her left-handed forehand, usually hit with much topspin. If near her best, Cocciaretto possesses a backhand that can stand up to that challenge. For that reason, the Italian is favored in this matchup.
Prediction: Cocciaretto in 2
Katie Volynets vs Tiantsoa Rakotomanga Rajaonah
Head-to-head: First meeting
Both women came through qualifying and recovered from losing the opening set in the previous round. Rajaonah will be the aggressor in this match against her much grittier and more athletic opponent. Volynets’ level is more reliable, and she does not mind having to scrap through ugly matches if necessary. I think that will prove decisive in this matchup.
Prediction: Volynets in 3
Yulia Putintseva vs Ella Seidel
Head-to-head: Putintseva 1-0 Seidel
Putintseva narrowly reached the Round of 16 after a tight battle with Alina Korneeva. Although a welcome win, she was nowhere near her level from 2024, and it showed why 2025 has been a challenging season for the Kazakhstani. Seidel has played well during the Asian swing, including victories against Beatriz Haddad Maia and Magdalena Frech. Her level from recent weeks would probably be good enough against the struggling Putintseva.
Prediction: Seidel in 3
