The Phoenix Symphony announced a $1 million investment from Oliver and Sharon Harper.

The Harpers have called Phoenix home since 1970 and have long been among the Symphony’s most dedicated champions, a press release notes. Ollie is a family physician with a subspecialty in geriatric medicine and former faculty member at the University of Arizona College of Medicine–Phoenix. Sharon is chairman and CEO of Plaza Companies, an Arizona real estate firm with a focus on medical, bioscience, commercial, hospitality, and senior living communities.

The donation will establish the Oliver & Sharon Harper Family Legacy for Music Excellence to help sustain and advance the Symphony as a vital cultural asset for Phoenix and Arizona.

“At the heart of a great city is a vibrant arts community that brings people together and enriches every aspect of life,” Sharon Harper stated. “The Phoenix Symphony inspires, educates, and connects people from every background.”

Ollie is also chairman emeritus of The Phoenix Symphony and continues to serve on the board of directors. Together, the couple serves as honorary co-chairs of CRESCENDO: The Campaign for The Phoenix Symphony, a $60 million initiative to ensure an enduring future for the Symphony.

“The Phoenix Symphony is part of the heart and soul of what Phoenix is all about,” Ollie Harper stated. “Because of the dedication of these musicians, their artistry, their commitment to our community, and their impact on thousands of students, we decided to invest in our Phoenix Symphony.”

The Symphony, a nonprofit 501(c)(3), was founded in 1947.
